PGCPS Encourages Community to Donate New School Supplies for Local Students Through August 6

As the sun sets on the 2023-24 School Year, Prince George County Public Schools encourages the Prince George County community to consider donating new, unopened school supplies that will be used to create backpacks for students within our schools during the district’s summertime school supply drive.

Over the years, thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies have been provided to the children of our community thanks to the generosity of residents, businesses, faith-based and civic organizations contributing hundreds of items during the summer in the lead-up to the start of school in Prince George County.

This year, backpacks will be available at each school’s orientation session in mid-August, with the dates and times for those sessions listed below:

  • August 13 - Prince George High School (3-6 p.m.)
  • August 14 - N.B. Clements Junior High School (3-6 p.m.)
  • August 15 - Elementary Schools (A.M. Sessions)
  • August 15 - J.E.J. Moore Middle School (12-4 p.m.)
    • Note: Elementary Schools will communicate with their families regarding specific grade-level times closer to orientation day.

Donations of school supplies are being accepted through Tuesday, August 6, 2024. These school supplies will be organized by volunteers and used to fill backpacks that will be available for children and families during each school’s pre-opening orientation session. These backpacks will be filled with donated supplies, including:

  • No. 2 Pencils
  • Blue/Black Ink Pens
  • Filler Paper (Wide & College Ruled)
  • 24-Count Crayons
  • Composition Notebooks
  • Spiral Notebooks
  • Index Cards
  • Glue Sticks
  • Pocket Folders
  • Fluorescent Highlighters

The August 6, 2024 donation deadline also coincides with the state’s annual sales tax holiday on qualifying school supplies priced $20 or less slated for August 2-4, 2024. These qualifying supplies can be purchased without sales tax during the three-day period, alongside qualifying clothing, emergency preparedness products, and energy-efficient appliances.
